Abstract

The paper dwells upon stages, leitmotifs and national peculiarities which were important in the reception of Leo Tolstoy in the British culture in the XIX–XXI centuries and made him one of the central figures in the British foreign cultural pantheon; it is shown that any act of cultural interaction leads to an interpretation, co-creation of differences, to inevitable change (sdvig).
