The paper considers some functions of historical Time as well as individual time and their interaction in literary work of a famous German writer W.G. Sebald (1944–2001). It shows how time periods or even exact dates chosen by the author are made to play roles of “seeds” containing all those meanings which later intertwine, branch out and thus grow into the literary text as a whole. The general scheme of such an “unfolding” of Time into Text by Sebald is brought to light through examples from his “Schwindel. Gefühle” (1990). The specific and central role of the year 1913 in this text is also clearly demonstrated.
