Abstract

The paper deals with religious discourse as one of institutional discourse types. It reveals the specific features of the architectonics of the Christmas Epistle by bishop John of Shanghai (Maksimovich), vicar of the Chinese and Beijing dioceses, the future saint John of Shanghai and the San Francisco miracle man. The paper further identifies the factors that contribute to the high attractive potential of this Christmas Epistle written in 1935. It reveals the high frequency of correlation markers of Heavenly space and the earthly space as a distinctive feature of the epistle architectonics. The high frequency of God’s name nominees is revealed. The pairing of the cognitive scenario and the linear one-vector four-terminal cognitive scene in the Christmas Epistle architectonics is established. The complex Epistle architectonics is modeled as one of the formats of preaching discourse as a type of religious discourse.
