Abstract

The Buryat-Mongolian ASSR was founded in 1923. As in the other USSR territories, the formation of national statehood here was based on the development of national economy, socialist industrialization, agricultural collectivization and Cultural Revolution. During the «language construction» which was carried out in the republic in 1920-1930s the alphabetic and dialect basis of the Buryat literary language was repeatedly changed. This period of language policy still remains to be a subject of close scrutiny for participants of the discussion on problems of its preservation and development.
