The article deals with the ratio of the historical documentary material and imagination, a combination of research and artistic beginnings in the “History French Revolution” by Jules Michelet. Recognized as a historiographer of the romantic period, by a reputable scientist-archivist, whose method is highly appreciated by historians of the school “Annals”, Michelet was at the same time a wonderful writer. His style and composition have influenced prose in XIX, and XX centuries. The fascination of the plot, the brightness of the images, the ability to convey the lively atmosphere of a revolutionary time allows you to see in this work the features of the novel and draw a parallel with the romantic historical novel.
