The paper discusses the novel by L. Binet The Seventh Function of Language in the context of the interaction of fact and fiction. The fact in Binet's novel is a source of inspiration for the writer as well as a reference point, starting from which the writer builds his alternative reality. Binet's alternative history is one of the ways of understanding and explaining reality as well as the way of its interpretation.
