Abstract

Yu.M. Lotman’s anniversary is marked by a new surge of interest in his ideas, which find a new resonance in the world that has changed dramatically in the thirty years after his death. The main feature of the modern world is total digitalization. On the one hand, Lotman’s concept of the semiosphere is being reinterpreted within the context of the virtual reality issues, and the necessary adjustments are being made to it. On the other hand, based on the concept of the semiosphere, theoretical and methodological approaches are being created to understand the «digitosphere» – the rapidly changing digital world with its laws and trends. The digitosphere inherited the existing mechanisms of meaning creation, but also contributed to the emergence of new nuances of semiosis. Due to the placement of seemingly spontaneous information processes in the theoretical frame of the semiosphere, they find their place and meaning in the structure of culture.
