Slavic mythological notions of the eyes and vision (OPEN ACCESS)

M.V. Yasinskaya

Abstract

The author analyzes archaic mythological motifs based on concepts of vision among the Slavs. Vision is closely associated with folk demonology. Category of assessment, expressed by markers dangerous / safe, plays the most important role in the concepts of vision. The view, the watching as an action take an active part in the magic. Lack of distinction between subject and object of vision, expressed both in vocabulary and in structure of the rite, is peculiar to archaic notions of vision.
