The paper analyses the image of Mother of the World created by Nicholas Roerich in correlation with the idea of Sophia discussed by Vladimir Solovyov. There are many common images associated with the concept of unity in Russian philosophy of cosmism, among which the image of the Great Mother is especially interesting, understood by the philosophers of the Russian Renaissance as one of the key symbols for the next era. The purpose of the current study is to identify similarity and difference in the philosophical and artistic interpretations of this image by Roerich and Solovyov substantiating the relevance of the concept of Sophia and the Great Mother in the context of contemporary culture in regard to feministic trends.
