This paper focuses on specific features of the representation of the artist figure in Franz Kafka’s short prose (The Collection “Ein Hungerkünstler”, 1924), as well as on the metamorphosis of artistic principle in his work caused by the change of the narrative point of view. In this paper, the interpretative opinions of the correlation between the artist, art, and readership /audience / public are analyzed. They are abundantly represented in literature studies, and the Austrian author was especially preoccupied with them in his last years. Based on the conducted analysis, it can be concluded that the artistic structure of Franz Kafka’s late prose undergoes an important transformation, and begins to be dominated by dramatic and ironic elements.
