The role that sensory perception plays in the process of forming phraseological meanings is in focus of the present paper. The analysis of English phraseologisms describing different aspects of verbal communication has shown that sensory information (or perception-based information) as an integral part of man’s cognitive activity provides the creation of images that, in their turn, give rise to particular semantics of phraseologisms.
