Transgression is regarded as a form of transition and transformation of the source material of creativity (words, stone, sound) into a work of art. A thing, a body, moves from one qualitative state to another. In this process, their original givenness, their “selfhood,” is overcome. Overcoming material substance and its transformation into artistic form is a single self-identical process. The natural properties of the material, which carry the potential for artistic implementation, have a significant impact on the direction of creative search. The solution to this problem is supported by references to M. Heidegger, J. Bataille, H-G. Gadamer, V. Podoroga, I. Goethe, O. Mandelstam, M. Bakhtin, E. Neizvestny. In terms of research prospects, the range of manifestations of transgression in art is outlined. This range is determined by the spatio-temporal characteristics of the work’s existence, the change of cultural paradigms, artistic movements, and schools.
