This paper considers the concept of personal knowledge of M. Polanyi, one of the founders of the post-positivist philosophy of science. The distinction between the “context of discovery” and the “context of justification” was developed to highlight the variety of subjective and psychological processes that the natural scientist went through to make his discoveries. According to postpositivists, the process or context of justification in natural science also has social, psychological and historical as-pects. In contrast to the traditional idea of objective knowledge, which is open to any subject, Polanyi put forward the idea of personal knowledge. According to his concept, the ideal of objective knowledge, passively affirmed by an impartial ob-server, turned out to be a myth. Polanyi's understanding of personal knowledge and tacit knowledge lays the foundation for trusting human knowledge without having to reduce everything to the demands of explicit scientific evidence.
