The paper focuses on the travel technique widely used in various national litera-tures. The purpose of this work is to show, on the case of two novelettes and two novels by H. James, the American writer of the late 19th– early 20th centuries, the possibilities of travel in revealing the theme of “confrontation” between the Old World and the New World.
