The article looks into the problem of interaction between sociocultural and linguistic processes in XX–XXI centurier Germany that, once registered in narrative reminiscences and in interviews with contemporaries, were later recorded and stored as part of national scientific projects that set different goals. The focus is placed on the role of speech corpora for historical, linguo-cultural and socio-linguistic research and on their potential application, particularly in the field of functional and social stu- dies of language variation with regard to systematic and dynamic characteristics of language.
