The paper describes the historical background and evolutionary trends of the concept of cultural landscape in the world cultural geography. It provides a comparative analysis of research into the cultural landscape conducted by the leading national scientific schools; the Anglo-Saxon (British and American), French, German and Russian scientific geographical national traditions are chosen as case studies. The paper describes the cultural turn in the world human geography and its consequences for rethinking the cultural landscape phenomenon. It also reveals the interdisciplinary links between cultural geography, other geographical and social sciences and the humanities.
