Kuznetsova Olga Alexandrovna – Candidate in Philology, research associate, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow, Russia
The article discusses the perception of the fable in Russia in the eighteenth century. It was a new literary form, which was gradually replacing the medieval parable, although it differed from it in many aspects: the presence of the author’s view, the ability to add new interpretations, the rejection of the legendary in favor of the fantastic. Various opinions about what a fable should be were presented in the introductions to the anthologies of fables. Special attention in the article is paid to the possibility of combining different interpretations of a fascinating plot from the point of view of a naive reader. The annex presents the reader’s marginalia of the early nineteenth century.
