Abstract

Nowadays there is a growing interest in popular psychology materials. A new culture of conscious attitude to psychological health is being formed and actively promoted in our society through the broadcasting of stereotypes of the Western world, taken as an ideal of life. Popular psychological discourse reflects the peculiarities of per-ception and linguistic categorization of reality, reconstructs models of interpersonal relations, cognitive and mental processes, transmits socio-cultural constants and basic values of a foreign society. This article is based on the analysis of verbal rep-resentations of popular motivational and psychological practices, in particular coaching, in the aspect of critical discourse analysis. German popular psychology texts with a high creative potential are used as the empirical material of the study.
